About Me

Brenda Canter is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who has worked in the medical field since 1997 and brings more than 15 years of experience in hormone replacement and optimization. Her approach blends traditional medicine with functional and integrative care, with an emphasis on understanding the underlying factors that influence how patients feel and function.

As co-founder of Embracing Functional Wellness, Brenda specializes in hormone optimization, thyroid health, metabolic and weight-loss care, and personalized wellness. As a busy, active mom herself, she understands firsthand how easy it can be for women to put their own health at the bottom of the list. She is passionate about helping patients understand what is happening in their bodies and creating realistic treatment plans that fit into real life.

Brenda is trained in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, BioTE® pellet therapy, and advanced functional testing. She is experienced in interpreting DUTCH® hormone testing and GI-MAP® comprehensive stool testing to help identify hormone, metabolic, and gastrointestinal imbalances and guide individualized treatment plans.

Outside of the clinic, Brenda stays just as busy. She is a proud mom of three, with children attending Texas A&M University and Texas State University, and remains actively involved in her son’s high-school football program, where she serves on the football board. Family, community, and Friday-night football are a big part of her life, and that down-to-earth perspective carries into the relationships she builds with her patients.
